About TainoBay.com

An independent guide for cruise passengers and visitors to Puerto Plata, written to be genuinely useful.

We are not the port. TainoBay.com is an independent travel website. It is not owned by, operated by or affiliated with the Taino Bay cruise terminal, its developers, Amber Cove, any cruise line or any government body. For official port notices and ship schedules, contact your cruise line.

TainoBay.com covers the Taino Bay cruise port, the city of Puerto Plata and the north coast of the Dominican Republic from Cayo Arena to Cabarete — written to help you plan a port day or a longer stay, and make good decisions when you are there.

What we cover

  • What is inside the port, and how Taino Bay differs from Amber Cove.
  • What you can reach on foot, and what needs a taxi or a tour.
  • Which shore excursions are worth booking, ranked honestly and updated as ratings change.
  • Practical matters: taxis, money, safety, weather and accessibility.
  • Where to stay if you are here for more than a day.

How we research

Journey times, facilities and opening arrangements are checked against operators, official sources and booking platforms, and reviewed regularly. Tour ratings and review counts come directly from GetYourGuide; hotel scores from Trip.com. Where a figure moves around — taxi tariffs, entrance fees, cable car tickets — we tell you to check on the day rather than pretending to a precision that does not exist.

Where we express an opinion, it is an opinion. We tell you when a day trip is too long for a port call, when an attraction is often closed, and when the free option is the better one.

How the site is funded

We are a GetYourGuide affiliate partner, and accommodation links go to Trip.com. If you book through a link on this site, we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That is the only way this guide is funded — there is no advertising, no sponsored placements and no paid inclusion in any ranking. Read the full affiliate disclosure.

Corrections

Ports change fast: new shops, new rules, new tariffs. If something here is out of date or wrong, please tell us — we would rather fix it than defend it. Write to us on the contact page.
